Michael Jackson is the world's most downloaded artist, according to figures collated from the Nokia Ovi Music Store, reports MTV UK.
Worldwide data puts the late King of Pop ahead of Lady GaGa, Elvis Presley, the Black Eyed Peas and Rihanna.
India is the country where Jackson’s songs are the most downloaded – where his tracks account for 26 per cent of all Nokia Ovi downloads - according to the mobile phone firm. The UK, Germany, Netherlands and Finland are also proving to be popular areas for Jackson track downloads.
“Beat It” is the most downloaded, with “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” close behind. All three tracks come from his 1982 album, Thriller, which is currently the best selling album of all time.
The new figures come just after the first anniversary of the troubled star’s death on Saturday 25 June 2009 and also what would have been his 52nd birthday on Sunday 29 August 2010. Fans paid tribute to the star outside his childhood home in Gary, Indiana in a party that was part of a four-day tribute. “The passing of our favourite son, Michael Jackson, is still fresh in our hearts,” said Gary, Illinois Mayor Rudy Clay prior to the event. “A year later, on the day before his birthday, we honour his memory as a great and giving person and as the world’s greatest entertainer.”
