As well as his curator role for the famous Bridge School Benefit gig, legendary Canadian rocker Neil Young also performs solo at the annual event. This year, he’ll be teaming up with his former Buffalo Springfield band-mates Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and Jim Messina, to perform together for the first time in 42 years, reports the Guardian. Buffalo Springfield, though a short-lived project which only lasted three albums, are viewed as an influential band of the 60’s and launched the careers of the two young musicians who ended up together again in Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Held in Mountain View, California at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, the Bridge School fundraiser has been held every October since 1986 (with the exception of 1987).

The concerts are all organized by Young and his wife, Pegi. Over the years they have attracted a diverse array of artists willing to donate their performance for children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Guests have included Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Sonic Youth, Bruce Springsteen, Beck, Emmylou Harris, Metallica, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Wilco and Australia’s own Wolfmother.

The 24th annual Bridge School benefit will be held over two days – Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October – and also features Pearl Jam, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Grizzly Bear and Lucinda Williams in its 2010 line-up.
