Former frontman of The Police, Sting (aka Gordon Sumner), is set to bring his Symphonicity world tour down under in early 2011, with tour dates newly announced.
The 59-year-old English songwriter – regularly listed as one of the world’s highest earning entertainers – will kick off his current trek in Australia with an outdoor concert held at WA’s Sandalford Estate on Saturday 22 January. Having already taken his latest live show through North American and Europe to rave reviews, his tenth solo release sees Sting team up with Britain’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for an album of ‘reinterpretations’ of hits such as “Englishman In New York”, “Roxanne”, and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”. The new show will see Sting perform his favourite songs, plus new originals, in a classical style – a must-see for diehard fans.
“I am looking forward to performing in Australia and New Zealand,” says Sting, “having a whole new palate of musical colours to work with and reinventing the songs that have been the staples of my live shows for over 30 years.” Sting and his band will team up with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for the first portion of the tour, as led by maestro Steven Mercurio (who’s led the likes of opera greats Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli).
