With her wondrous voice and wide-eyed delivery, it’s no surprise that Sydney singer/songwriter Holly Throsby has turned to kids for inspiration with her latest LP.

This week sees the release of a brand new disc from the 31-year-old “Making A Fire” singer – a children’s album, titled See!

Back in January 2010 Throsby teamed up with her long-time producer Tony Dupé in a 19th century church in Wildes Meadow, NSW, to record both brand new original tunes and classic favourites. As well as drums, guitar, violins and singing, the album also contains snippets of bird songs, barking dogs, bicycle bells and much more.

Sessions were also recorded at a primary school and two birthday parties. “I wanted to make an album for children that is like an adventure,” says Throsby of the magical record. “It’s childlike and curious and full of information and ideas. I also think of it as an alternative to traditional children’s music. It’s a little black sheep for kids and parents.”

Dropping by recording sessions were some of Australia’s best indie talents, including Darren Hanlon, J. Walker, and Jack Ladder. Plus there’s even a special appearance by Throsby’s mother, radio host Margaret Throsby.

Meanwhile, Throsby is set to follow up her previous three ‘adult’ discs – On Night (2004), Under the Town (2006) and A Loud Call (2008) – with a brand new longplayer set for February 2011.

See! Is out Friday 15 October, and tracks are:

“Putt Putt”, “Fish And Mice”, “The Seasons”, “Diamonds Are So Shiny”, “Drum Lesson”, “Shadow and Echo”, “Can I Do That Too?”, “Hello Tiger”, “What Turns?”, “See You World”, “Always Be Young”.
