Someone’s in trouble. With so many bands in the world – and plenty who use similarly titled monikers – you can see how it’s easy to get confused. American cable giant MTV have been left with red cheeks after making an embarrassing gaff: accidentally inscribing a trophy destined for Ohio duo the Black Keys with the wrong band name.

The blues rock duo, comprised of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, have hit the big time with the May 2010 release of Brothers, their sixth LP. The pair took out a MTV VMA award last month for ‘Best Breakthrough Video’ for the film clip to their track “Tighten Up”... but after receiving their gong in the mail this week, Auerbach and Carney were surprised to see the famous Moonman trophies inscribed to ‘the Black Eyed Peas’ – instead of the Keys.

Woops. After posting pictures of the offending item on their Facebook account (the band were “super proud of fergie!!!” they joked, Carney posting on Twitter, “I feel like I’m gonna get like 300 bucks for it on eBay”), MTV quickly issued a statement.

The network said they, “sincerely regret the clerical error that resulted in The Black Keys receiving the wrong VMA awards,” they admitted in a statement. “We are happy to report new trophies reflecting the Black Keys’ win are currently in development and they should receive them shortly. Lastly, we thank the Black Keys for their considerable patience and understanding regarding this matter.”
