Former Killing Heidi singer Ella Hooper has discovered the joys of the internet, after fake racist postings from someone pretending to be the 27-year-old Melbourne singer made their way online earlier this week.

In August the singer released a LP titled Seasons, from her brand new outfit the Verses. Now the “Weir” singer’s identity and photograph have been used by someone to rant about “Asian pigs” in Facebook status updates. The fake ‘Ella’ was apparently holidaying in Thailand when they posted the offensive comments, busy complaining about being charged excessive fees to hire a laptop.

With more than 5,000 Facebook friends linked to the account, the fake ‘Ella’ has been pretending to be the singer for some time – a fact which had escaped the attention of the real musician, who quickly put the facts straight via the Verses’ official Facebook page.

Alongside her older brother, Jesse, Hooper’s latest musical project – which features an acoustic folk sound – is signed to major label Warner Music. Seasons was recorded in Los Angeles with acclaimed producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Pearl Jam).

“We are in the process of getting this page removed from Facebook,” said the Verses’ label publicist, Natasha Henry, of the fake account. “Ella and Jesse Hooper communicate directly via the Verses’ Facebook page and update this regularly, so any friends and fans wanting to get in touch can find the real Ella Hooper there.”
