After much speculation and plenty of media talk, US pop princess Katy Perry has tied the knot with her bad boy husband, British comic Russell Brand.

The 25-year-old “I Kissed A Girl” singer became Mrs Brand on Saturday 23 October, the couple exchanging vows as part of an elaborate ceremony in northern India. To kick off the weekend, the couple threw a Bollywood themed party for guests on Friday 22 October at luxury resort the Aman-i-Khas, located in Rajasthan. With Perry wearing a red sari and Brand donning a white ‘kurta pyjama’ outfit, the celebration included jugglers, drum players, and acrobats. “The young children looked very pretty, with the boys wearing small turbans too,” says Rafiq Khan, a musical guest performing at the party.

The next day celebrations continued as two elephants, Laxmi and Mala, were seen arriving at the resort, the lovebirds later riding on top of them in a traditional wedding procession known as a ‘bharat’. According to a source to People magazine, “Mala [was] a bit skittish and hates crowds, but she managed to behave herself.”

“The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples’ closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and long-time friend of the Hudson Family,” says a representative for the singer. “The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India.”

If her marriage wasn’t exciting enough news, Australian fans will get a glimpse of the new Mrs Brand when she hits Australia on Friday 29 April, as part of her Californian Dreams Tour 2011. The “Firework” singer announced a series of national dates this morning, her first trek since 2009’s Hello Katy tour. Tickets for the shows go on sale Thursday 4 November, and dates are:
