Yet another pop diva is allegedly set to become a mother soon, with reports in the US that “Touch My Body” singer Mariah Carey is with child. According to a source speaking to hollyybaby.com, the 40-year-old R&B star – who is married to husband Nick Cannon – is pregnant with a boy, and will announce her news in the next few weeks.
“She’s having a boy, but the reason that Mariah didn’t want to say anything is because she is 40, and she’s superstitious,” the source reckons, insisting the singer underwent fertility treatment earlier this year, cutting out alcohol and gaining a noticeable amount of weight as a result of the procedures. “But she’s going to appear on ‘Oprah’ and ‘The View’, so she’s planning on making the announcement soon.”
Having shot to fame back in 1990 with her debut self-titled LP, Carey is now one of the world’s most successful, record-breaking artists. At a glittering event in New York City last night she announced her latest collection of songs, Merry Christmas II You, the singer keeping mum when asked about the pregnancy rumours. Instead, Carey issued a statement via her agent, Cindi Berger. “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes. But I am very superstitious. When the time is right, everyone will know – even Cindi Berger,” the comment read.
“Mariah loves Christmas,” said Def Jam head honcho Anthony Reid of the new LP, “and she probably spends way too much on it. She goes all out for this, so I hope that’s coming through in the music.”
Due out next week, Merry Christmas II You includes renditions of classics like “O Holy Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”.
