With a myriad of media attention in the last few weeks over her growing body, US singer Mariah Carey has confirmed she is pregnant in an interview with NBC show “Access Hollywood”.
The 41-year-old “Obsessed” singer decided to finally speak out because, as she joked, “At this point, there is no choice. I either talk or I hibernate.” While not revealing exactly when the baby is due or what sex it is, Carey (who appeared alongside her actor/rapper husband Nick Cannon) did confess that it is her second pregnancy – two years ago she suffered a miscarriage that was devastating for the couple.
“Yes, we are pregnant, this is true,” said Carey. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.” The singer says her past miscarriage was a major blow to the married pair. “[It] kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult,” she said. “When that happened... I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy.”
Cannon says he’s thrilled at the couple’s good news, and can’t wait to be a dad. “The greatest gift on earth is a child. We’ve had names picked out from the first day we met and we want to stay true to that.”
Carey and Cannon were married in the Bahamas back in April 2008. Carey’s next LP, Merry Christmas II You, is released Tuesday 2 November.
