Back in 2007 she was lumped with the nickname of the ‘next Amy Winehouse’, but London-based soul singer Adele quickly forged a space in the music scene all her own. Now the 22-year-old singer (full name Adele Laurie Blue Adkins) has announced she’ll release the follow-up to her 2008 LP (which was titled 19) on Tuesday 22 February – and this time it’s simply called 21.

Written and produced by Adele alongside British producer Paul Epworth (Florence And The Machine, Bloc Party), the new record will be preceded by first single “Rolling In The Deep”, which is due to hit radio mid November. According to the Grammy-winning singer, the first new slice for fans is a “dark bluesy gospel disco tune.” The LP itself was recorded in different sessions in both Los Angeles (with producer Rick Rubin, who has worked with the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gossip, at its helm) before wrapping sessions up in London alongside Epworth.

Adele won’t have a bar of comparisons to any of her fellow British gal singers. “We’re a gender, not a genre,” she once quipped back in 2008, when asked about comparisons to Winehouse and blonde Welsh singer Duffy. “I think Amy is hardcore, Duffy is really soft – she’s got the pin-up look going on. She’s a proper lady. I think I’m really contemporary. And I’m just really mouthy!”
