Released (not coincidentally, perhaps) just in time for the Christmas rush, a brand new album from late pop great Michael Jackson is set to hit shelves on Friday 10 December.

“Michael” is the simple title of the new longplayer from the deceased “Thriller” star, the album made up of tracks Jackson was working on up until his unexpected death in June 2009. Together with his long-term label, Jackson’s estate has compiled the new CD from these sessions, with the first song lifted from the collection to be new single “Breaking News”.

The King of Pop had, read a press release from Sony Music yesterday, been recording the new material in studios in Las Vegas and New Jersey in the months leading up to his accidental death. The singer’s death was ruled a homicide, with personal doctor Dr Conrad Murray set to stand trial over charges of involuntary manslaughter over the number and amount of prescription drugs found in Jackson’s system.

According to the label, “Breaking News,” was recorded in New Jersey in 2007, and only recently completed. The cover art from the new disc was created by painter Kadir Nelson last year, and “takes us on a journey through some key moments and important people in Michael Jackson’s life.”

Will Jackson’s last LP be any good? Find out next month.
