Country star Keith Urban – the hubby of Australian Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman – kicked off the promotion for his latest album, Get Closer, in a unique way yesterday – surprising fans on an Amtrak train out of New York City with an impromptu concert.
The 43-year-old “Put You In A Song” singer was cheered on by hundreds of fans at stop in Penn Station and 30th Street while he performed five new tunes, as well as throwing in a snippet of Elton John's track “Philadelphia Freedom”.
“I've never performed on a train,” Urban told the crowd. “I'm not even sure how I'll be able to stand! I finally made it to Penn Station – to heck with Madison Square Garden,” he joked. “I can check this off my bucket list now.”
The New Zealand born, Australian raised singer released his seventh studio album this week, Slant Magazine describing it as “vintage Urban”.
