[Source: NME.com] Nile Rodgers has admitted to taking unlikely inspiration from Green Day.

The producer and Chic star has been taking his 'Le Freak' guitar contest out on the road where audience members are invited to come up on stage and perform his classic.

Now, writing on his blog at NileRodgers.com he revealed that the whole concept is inspired by a segment in the stadium punks' live show.

He wrote: "The 'Le Freak' guitar contest is a variation on something that I've stolen… er borrowed from the band Green Day. They have people come on stage from the audience and play. I've upped the ante by giving away a guitar to whomever plays the funkiest. We've done this at Tokyo Blue Note and it's really fun."

The next contest is due to take place in Brussels next Monday (June 13).

Meanwhile, Rodgers also blogged about his health. Though recently being declared 'cancer free', he wrote: "Once cancer attacks you it's easy to think that anything you feel out of the ordinary is cancer related. I was knocked on my a$$ today but let's face it, I did a concert yesterday which required five hours of drive time, as well as just returning home from a frenetic Asian trip thirty hours before, and I do this blog every day."

Meanwhile, Rodgers has announced via Twitter.com/NileRodgers that his band will reunite for UK shows this year. He wrote: "UK FRIENDS: There will def be CHIC shows this year! We are lining them up now – I have to work around my post-op therapy."
