Two of the biggest names in r&b are embroiled in a legal battle. Fans of the Baz Luhrmann film Romeo & Juliet might remember the song "Kissing You", which featured on the movie's soundtrack. Yesterday, a lawsuit was filed in Manhattan by Des'ree, the song's co-writer, against former Destiny Child singer Beyoncé Knowles. Des'ree, a UK singer who had a huge hit in 1998 with "Life", is claiming Beyoncé never obtained written clearance to use the song, yet chose to record her own version, titled "Still In Love (Kissing You)", on her latest LP, Play. Des'ree is now seeking AU$180,000 in damages and is demanding the song, video and album stop being distributed. The case will be heard in court in the upcoming weeks.
