[Source: NME.com] Deftones have chatted about why they decided to cover Katy Perry's 'Firework' at their recent shows.

Speaking to NME backstage at Reading Festival, lead singer Chino Moreno said:

"Stephen [Carpenter, guitar] loves Katy Perry. We did it for him. He's seriously embedded all her songs into our brains. He always has music on for the van rides. So I've heard almost every Katy Perry song a million times. Just for him I threw it into one of our songs one day, sort of made everyone chuckle, it's fun, I like the song."

The band played the cover as part of their own song '7 Words' during their show at Reading Festival. You can watch the cover from the band's Lollapalooza festival performance by clicking here.

The band were also asked which artist they'd like to see cover one of their songs. Moreno answered:

"Sade. I think it would be awesome, because we did a Sade song [the band have covered her track 'No Ordinary Love'], if Sade did one of our songs. Possibly something more of her format, like, maybe, 'Digital Battles'. Something like that."
