Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea says band lost 'magic' when John Frusciante left

[Source: NME.com] Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea has admitted that they lost some "magic" when guitarist John Frusciante left the band.

In an interview with BassPlayer.com, the bassist admitted that he and Frusciante had developed "such a language together" that it took a while for things to click with his replacement and former Warpaint man Josh Klinghoffer.

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis recently claimed that Frusciante's departure from the band had "felt good", but when asked if Klinghoffer had changed the group's dynamic, Flea replied: "A lot! John and I had established such a language together – if I started playing bass with John, he'd make awesome grooves that we didn't need to talk about or think about."

He then went on to add:

"With Josh, we'd start playing something and I'd be like, 'OK, when is he going to do that magic thing where we create the cosmic perfect groove?' and he just wouldn't do it. But then I realised that I was sitting there waiting for something because it's what I was used to, and that I need to let Josh be Josh."

The bassist also mentioned his new project with Blur's Damon Albarn and Tony Allen, called Rocketjuice And The Moon, describing it as "really fun" and labelling Allen as "the best drummer on the planet".
