U2 played a short set at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday May 19 ahead of the premiere of U2 3D, a road film shot on the South American leg of their Vertigo tour. The band performed "Vertigo" and "Where The Streets Have No Name" at the red carpet entrance to the Grand Theatre Lumiere. The film uses new three-dimensional technology that allows cameras to get closer to the performers than has been previously possible. The Cannes audience witnessed a 55-minute preview of the film (it's expected to be 90 minutes), which will be released internationally in approximately 1000 3D-equipped cinemas.
