Proving that there’s nothing more fun than singing into a microphone, Sir Elton John has taken out the top spot in a karaoke content with his rendition of “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”. No, the “Candle In The Wind” singer wasn’t belting out the Elvis Presley classic down at his local – he was appearing at a charity evening in London for the Hoping Foundation, a UK organisation raising cash for children in Palestine. Guests at the event, including models Elle Macpherson and Kate Moss, could bid for the chance to ask their favourite singer to perform a karaoke fave, or the opportunity to get up onstage with them. Sir John raised the most cash on the night (AUS$259,000), while Nick Cave’s rendition of “Bootylicious” earned him second place ($165,000). Two other special guests included infamous frontman of the Pogues, Shane McGowan (who sang Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire”), and Mick Jones, formerly of the Clash – who sang his own, “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”.
